Challenge #2 – Create an Instagram Page

Instagram launched in 2010 and has fast become an important platform for digital marketing. Sources suggest that there are now over 1 billion users worldwide making it an effective tool for growing your accommodation business.

Challenge #2 – Create an Instagram Page

Step 1: Download the Instagram App

Instagram does have a web version but it is primarily used on a smartphone. Therefore, it’s far easier to use the Instagram app. To get started you need one of the following:

  • iOS (Apple Phone)
  • Android
  • Smart tablet

Search for the Instagram app in the App Store or Google Play Store and install!

Step 2: Sign up to Instagram

Challenge #2 – Create an Instagram Page

Once installed open the app, you’ll then be prompted to either sign up for a new account or register with Facebook. Remember on signing up, it’s best to choose your main business email or the same one that matches all your other social media feeds. This way, if any potential or previous guests try to in touch with you, you’ll be able to see the message and get back to them quickly.

When deciding on your username, it’s important to keep your usernames as uniform as you can across all platforms. Try to make them relevant to your accommodation. This will help create consistent branding for all your online marketing and allows users to instantly recognise your accommodation.

Step 3: Choosing a profile picture for Instagram

This needs to be instantly recognisable even when small. Think clear and crisp – the image needs to stand out!

As you are an accommodation business we suggest using one of the following:

  • Your Logo
  • A Shortened logo
  • A Picture Of Your Property

Step 4: Filling Out Your Instagram Profile

Challenge #2 – Create an Instagram Page

Most of the profile fields are self-explanatory. However, below are a few things to keep in mind whilst completing the section.

Your Instagram bio is one of the first things users see before they scroll down to your images. Your bio needs to tell users about the accommodations you offer and what makes you stand out. Remember it’s marketing – sell your accommodation.

The profile also allows you to link your website. It is important to do this as it will drive visitors from your Instagram Profile to your website.

Now that you’ve signed up to Instagram and completed your bio – your ready to start posting pictures. But hold on for a day or two as we’ll show you how to get the most out of the platform – there’s no rush. Instead, make a cup of tea and take some time to relax – see you tomorrow!!!
